Just how significant is the human heart? Recall that when King Solomon asked God for wisdom to govern the people, God did not give him a wise and discerning brain or mind. God gave him a wise and discerning heart.
God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself discernment to understand justice, behold, I have done according to your words. Behold, I have given you a wise and discerning heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, nor shall one like you arise after you. 1 Kings 3:11-12
In our left-brain leaning culture, the importance of the heart has been forgotten. Yet, the Bible teaches that we believe with our hearts.
for with the heart a person believes … Romans 10:10
We need a heart that is wise and that believes. Let’s ask God for a wise and discerning heart like the one He gave to Solomon.
Lord God, every day I face challenges. And I don’t always know what to do. Please give me a wise and discerning heart so that I can navigate those challenges in a way that brings about Your will and Your kingdom. I ask in Jesus’ name as always. Amen.
