Jay and I have a friend who is a police officer. On the weekends, our friend works security at local events so Jay always wants to go to them to see his friend Officer Brian (not his real name).
Officer Brian enjoys discussing my ministry with me so I told him about my blog Beware Trendy Teachings in which I warn against accepting popular teachings – such as the one about destiny – without examining them carefully. Now this man has faithfully served our community with fairness and grace for many years, but when I mentioned the word destiny, he seemed a little hesitant and gestured to the theology book that I was carrying. I tote the heavy thing with me so that I can cram in a few pages as I wait for my friendly son to visit with everyone. He pointed at the book, saying that he didn’t need to know stuff like that. I assured him that I didn’t want to know it either, but it was part of my training.
Then – not wanting him to feel intimidated and under the urging of the Holy Spirit – I told him that he was doing a great job bringing the image of God into the earth. He represented God’s love of order and the administering of the law with great kindness. With that, he straightened up and smiled at me.
Not everyone is called to be a preacher or a minister. There are many more ways to express the goodness and character of God here in the earth. You and I bear His image. Let that shine no matter what you do.
But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. Psalm 3:3
God bless,
Susan
