Bam! Pow! Angels on the Scene

Angel Series Part Seven

My second encounter with angels also happened while I was going to graduate school. Class had ended and I was walking to my apartment when a car full of college boys screeched to a halt beside me and the boys piled out. Looking back at the memory there were an extraordinary number of guys stuffed into that car.

Keeping my head down, I kept going, but was forced to stop when they surrounded me. One, the leader apparently, confronted me while his laughing gang catcalled and fake punched each other. I looked way way up at the grinning young man blocking my path. I was terrified. He made a move towards me when suddenly his feet left the ground and he flew backwards as if someone had given him a mighty shove in the chest.

He landed on his feet, eyes wide, garbling Wha? Wha? Then fled in the direction of a dorm building on the other side of the street. The other boys rapidly dispersed.

Stunned, I quickly walked home, threw my books on my ratty second-hand sofa, and plopped down on a kitchen chair. I was certain that an angel had pushed that man because he had threatened me.

I had only been in God’s family for a year when He sent His angel to back that guy off. In my biological family, I wasn’t protected or particularly loved so I struggled terribly with fear and feelings of rejection. These feelings strongly affected my ability to trust God. This event and the one I wrote about in Part Six of The Angel Series went a long way toward proving that God and His family wanted to protect me and maybe even love me. Just like He wants to protect and love you.

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! 1 John 3:1

God bless,
