Lord, Make Me Easy To Love

The proof for my latest book arrived yesterday meaning that I will have my nose buried in 226 printed pages looking for typos and any problem overlooked by the publisher’s editors. I’ll share a sneak peak of the book soon.

It arrived in my inbox the day before flooring installers were scheduled to invade our entire downstairs. Upstairs, we are attempting to quell The Cat Wars. One of our three cats has declared war on the others. Constant supervision and maintaining a comfortable separation between the combatants is ongoing. YouTubeTV is in a contract dispute with Disney so Disney has pulled all their sports programming in the middle of the college football season. This is not acceptable to my son, a football fanatic. Meanwhile, Sam is preparing a sermon, a class on the symbols found in the book of Revelation, and heading out of town for the weekend. Now toss into that mix that I’m behind on my blogs and completely absorbed in the new book I’m writing. Oh—I almost forgot. Our credit card, the one we use for online bill paying, was hacked.

As I settled down to begin proofing the book, Jay asked me to research the TV situation and Sam asked me to remember he needed clothes washed before his trip. The temptation to lash out at these annoying men was great. But just days before this complex challenge coalesced the Lord suggested a new prayer strategy. Pray—Lord, make me easy to love.

I shared this insight with Sam and both of us laughed as we prayed to be made loveable. Our current challenges remain to be navigated, but whenever I feel tempted to respond resentfully, the Holy Spirit reminds me to pray Lord, make me easy to love and the temptation eases.

I’m sure you face many challenges also. Perhaps this little prayer will strengthen you and help you navigate the rough waters.

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15

God bless and keep you,

Susan
