Why Do Demons Attack? The Hidden Fuel Behind Spiritual Warfare

A Deeper Look from “Demons Are Not the Boss of You” – Part 1 | Susan Bowman, The Pool Ministries

Most believers can explain spiritual warfare in broad terms—“the enemy hates us,” or “Satan wants to destroy what God loves.” While these are true, Susan Bowman reveals something far more piercing in Demons Are Not the Boss of You – Part One:

Demons do not simply attack to harm us. They attack to feed.

They seek fuel, and that fuel is generated by our emotional distress—fear, torment, anxiety, hopelessness, and shame. This teaching shifts the battlefield from vague, external conflict to something far more intimate: the condition of the human heart.

Spiritual Warfare Is Not About Fear—It’s About Energy

We know from Scripture:

“The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy…” (John 10:10)
“Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

But what exactly is the enemy devouring?

Susan explains what most believers never consider:
Demons cannot draw life from God. They are cut off from the Source of life. Because they are spirit beings with no access to divine sustenance, they seek a substitute—the chaotic energy produced by human emotional pain.

The Heart: The True Feeding Ground

This is not random spiritual theory. It is rooted in both Scripture and God’s own design of the human heart.

Through a field known as neurocardiology, science confirms:

  • The heart emits a measurable electromagnetic field

  • That field is powered by our emotional state

  • Peace produces harmony

  • Fear and shame produce chaos

Now combine this scientific reality with Proverbs 4:23:

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”

Demons are not primarily chasing your circumstances. They are targeting your heart energy, the core of your inner life. If they can stir fear, they can feed. If they can trigger shame, they can feed. If they can press on old wounds, they can feed.

Why Your Pain Draws Attack

When believers carry unresolved wounds—inner vows such as “I’ll never be hurt again” or “I must be perfect”—those cracks in the heart become open doors. Demons are opportunistic. They follow the scent of pain.

Just as Susan recounted seeing demonic beings awaiting emotional outpourings at funerals, these spirits are drawn to intense distress. They are not powerful—they are parasitic. They survive by stirring turmoil in God’s children.

Where there is peace, they starve. Where there is torment, they feed.

The Ultimate Goal: Hearts Untouchable to the Enemy

In John 14:30, Jesus declared:

“The ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.”

This is the standard Susan calls believers toward—to become so healed, so whole in Christ, that the enemy finds nothing to feed upon.
That is why her teachings are not about demon-chasing… but heart transformation.

Recognize This Truth:

  • Spiritual warfare is not about shouting at demons—
It’s about starving them of what they seek.

  • They feed on emotional chaos—
So we arm ourselves not only with authority, but with inner peace.

  • They cannot devour what is anchored in Christ—
“My peace I leave with you…” (John 14:27)

🔍 What Comes Next

In the next teaching of Demons Are Not the Boss of You, Susan will expose:

  • How demons disguise themselves through inner vows and personality

  • How to set spiritual boundaries that silence them

  • How to discern demonic influence in others—without fear or confrontation
